Trips and retreats are a very big part of the faith formation of our students in SPY! We register for most of our trips in the fall, so please e-mail Jen Evans, Associate Pastor for Youth, Young Adult, and Families with Young Children Ministries, jenevans@secondpreslr.org if you need information on any of these trips.
Junior High Jubilee at Mo-Ranch
Each year, our middle school group travels to Mo-Ranch in Hunt, Texas to attend “Junior High Jubilee†which is a Presbyterian Youth Conference attended by students from all over the south. During this time our students worship together, study the Bible in small groups, have recreation time swimming in the Guadalupe River, and get to know and share their faith with other young people. This trip is for students who have completed grades 6-8.
Montreat Youth Conference
Our senior high group travels to Montreat, North Carolina each summer, late in July, to participate in the Montreat Youth Conference. This conference hosts hundreds of other Presbyterian Youth and offers opportunities for our students to get involved in worship, keynote, small groups, energizers, as well as recreation time spent eating ice cream at “The Huckâ€, rock-hopping, playing ultimate Frisbee, or just enjoying one another’s company. This trip is open to students who have completed grades 8 – 12.
Mission Work and Mission Trips
Mission work is a key element for our Youth. We participate in monthly mission projects in our community as well as supporting a “Middle School Mission Week†each summer and a Senior High Mission Trip either over Spring Break or in the summer. These mission trips are a combination of “hammer and nail†projects and “people†projects. In the last few years we have done mission work in Chicago, San Francisco and New Mexico. Please watch for details of our next mission trip!
